E+CO for Sustainable Future

21.03. – 29.03.2020
Zázrivá, Slovakia

Event summary

How can we justify youth work when leaving a major carbon footprint with every step within an Erasmus+ project? Flying in 20 people from all over Europe can be equalled to 2 tons of CO2. In addition, waste of food, energy and other resources is a common problem at such events. Do you want to break the cycle and be a part of the ECO change? Are you interested in learning about sustainable lifestyle? With this project, we will have a great impact on the Erasmus+ community, influencing projects yet to come and future work of organizations. Through a variety of interactive and fun workshops, we will create content worth sharing.

The goal of “E+CO” is to create innovative material on the topic of sustainability in cooperation with motivated people from the field of youth work in an international and enjoyable environment. Together, 21 participants from Slovakia, Estonia, Greece, Poland, Austria and Spain will work on new strategies, ideas and information about making Erasmus+ projects more sustainable. We hope that it will have an impact on the Erasmus community and other NGOs. It allows youth workers to get better acquainted with the topic while gaining hands-on experience and skills of eco-friendly project management.

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission Erasmus+ programme. This publication [communication] reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

Where you'll be staying

Venue & Location

This training will take place in Zázrivá, Slovakia. The venue is surrounded by forests and mountains of Malá Fatra National Park. We will be accommodated in a traditional wooden cabin with a cosy smell of wood and home cuisine near the birthplace of the famous Slovak folk hero Jánošík. The rooms in the wooden house are equipped with their own bathroom. There is a social/seminar room where the workshops will take place. The cabin counts with a Finnish sauna available during the free time as well as an 18-hole adventure golf course. Hopefully, the weather is on our side and we will be able to show you the beauty of this place as much as possible.

Our participants will be accommodated in comfortable renovated houses with double, triple or quadruple rooms, with a nice view of the surrounding nature.
Place includes:
  • Finnish Sauna
  • Adventure golf
  • Indoor seminar room
  • Possibility to hike in the beautiful mountain area
  • Cozy indoor wooden spaces
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the same location every day and we are also providing vegetarian options. On one day we will prepare the vegetarian food together.

We truly believe that this is the ideal place to take a fresh perspective on youth work: surrounded by a great company of inspirational people from different corners of Europe and scenic views of a mountainous Slovak landscape.

Discover non-formal learning

What can you expect?

The program

We will begin the program with ice-breaking and then gradually move deeper into the topic. The days will be filled with activities that look at sustainability through different lenses and offer a new perspective on project management. Altogether, you’ll learn how to make an impact on young people without making an excessive impact on the environment!

The Networking

What would an international project be without the opportunity to get to know lots of awesome and inspirational people? Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, you can be sure to meet not only valuable contacts for your future work but also new friends that you will stay in touch with long after the event has finished. All of that while surrounded by calming and picturesque Slovak nature!

The Unexpected

While training courses are certainly a great opportunity to gain new knowledge and diversify your skillset, they can be more than that. You are more than welcome to bring added value to the sessions by sharing your own experience and insights. It’s your chance to make the event even more useful and memorable while leaving a mark. After all, you never know what can come out of it.

how do we do it?

Social program

In our organisation, it has become a tradition that each national group takes turns presenting different aspects of their culture during the national evenings. In perspective to helping this project to be as memorable as possible, take this opportunity to prepare a unique and extraordinary presentation and think of it as a good way to represent your cultural background for the rest of the participants. Don’t be afraid to be creative! It’s highly recommended to bring some typical food, snacks or drinks for others to taste during the intercultural evening.
